After-School Program

Welcome to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula’s After-School Program, where we redefine after-school care as comprehensive and holistic programming. We understand that after the bell rings, children need more than just a place to stay; they need an enriching environment that fosters growth and development in various aspects of their lives.

Our After-School Program goes beyond mere childcare, offering a structured schedule that aligns with the school district calendar, providing parents with a reliable option for after-school activities. Whether you’re in Newport News, Hampton, York, Gloucester, or James City County, you can count on us to be there for your child.

Upon arrival, children are served a nutritious meal to fuel their bodies and minds for the activities ahead. From there, they dive into our 5-Core Areas of initiatives, covering education, health and wellness, leadership and service, sports and recreation, and the arts. Each core area is carefully designed to engage and inspire children, nurturing their academic, physical, and social-emotional development.

Location and Schedule: Our Program times and locations are tailored to accommodate the needs of different school districts, ensuring accessibility for families across the Virginia Peninsula.

BGCVP is committed to providing high-quality, affordable programs that give young people a safe and supportive place to learn, grow, and thrive.

Program Fees

The weekly fee for BGCVP’s After-School Program is $25 per child. Select Club locations also offer Before-School Care for $15 per week. Families who enroll in both Before-School and After-School Care pay a combined rate of $35 per week.

Program fees help support the cost of operating our Clubs and allow us to continue providing safe facilities, caring and well-trained staff, nutritious meals and snacks, transportation where available, and engaging programs and activities for our members.

More Than After-School Care

Being a BGCVP member means being part of a Club community. In addition to daily after-school programming, members have access to a variety of enrichment opportunities, special events, activities, field trips, and experiences designed to help them build confidence, develop new skills, form positive relationships, and discover their potential. Clubs are available in Hampton, Gloucester, James City County, Newport News, and York. Find a Club near you today here!

Financial Assistance

We believe every child should have access to a high-quality Club experience, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. Scholarships are available for families who need assistance with weekly program fees and can be applied for here.

Please note: Families must complete BGCVP membership registration and create an online account through our registration portal before applying for financial assistance. Returning families must renew their existing membership account. Our registration platform works alongside the scholarship application and collects important information needed to review your request that is not included on the scholarship form. Scholarship applications cannot be considered until the applicant has an active BGCVP membership account. To create a new account or renew your membership, please visit our online registration platform. Once your membership registration is complete, you may submit your scholarship application.

After-School Transportation

Transportation to select BGCVP Club locations is provided through a partnership between BGCVP and local school divisions. Transportation fees range from $25 to $40 per month, depending on the locality, and can be added through your BGCVP online account.

Transportation is available on a first-come, first-served basis and space fills quickly. Please contact your local Club for a current list of schools that provide transportation to that location.

If your child’s school does not currently provide transportation to your local Club, we encourage you to contact your school division’s transportation department directly to request that a bus route be added. We have found that transportation requests are often most effective when they come directly from families, which is why we encourage parents and guardians to reach out to their school division. While BGCVP cannot guarantee that a route will be added, your request helps communicate the need for transportation to your local Club.
