Hal Smith
President & CEO
Hal Smith was born and raised in Yorktown, Virginia. He is a 1994 graduate of George Mason University with a B.S. in Public Administration. Hal has been in the Boys & Girls Club movement for a total of 19 years as both a board member and staff. Prior to his Boys & Girls Club career, Hal spent 16 years in the residential building industry, specializing in large-scale renovations and custom home building. Now Hal is responsible for the operations, administration, and resource development of 11 Club sites, a Workforce Development Center, and a Youth Development Park.
Hal is a graduate of the Boys & Girls Club Leadership University School of Executive Leadership through the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He is a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Government Relations Advisory Committee, which provides leadership and direction for sharing the message of Boys & Girls Clubs at the federal level. As CEO of the largest Boys & Girls Club organization in Virginia, Hal is actively engaged with the Virginia Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, which advocates for youth across the entire Commonwealth. Locally, Hal is proud to serve as a Board Member for the Newport News Police Foundation.

Rob Coleman
Chief Operating Officer
Robert “Rob” Coleman has been a resident of Newport News for over 45 years. He attended Newport News Public Schools and graduated from Warwick High School in 1989. Rob is also a graduate of the National Criminal Justice Command College at UVA, The Leadership Institute at the College of William & Mary, and the Hampton Roads Regional Criminal Justice Academy.
For 25 years, Rob was a member of the Newport News Sheriff’s Office where he made his way through the ranks and upon his retirement held the rank of Major and Operations Bureau Chief. In addition to his work heading BGCVP’s operations, Rob serves as the President of the Newport News Police Foundation.

Tasha Rose
Chief Administrative Officer
Natasha “Tasha” Rose is a native of Hampton Roads. She attended Hampton Roads Academy and graduated in 1998. She continued her studies at Virginia Tech – Pamplin College of Business, earning her degree in 2002.
She began her career with Ferguson Enterprises where she served in multiple roles. Following her time with Ferguson, Tasha has spent the last fifteen years in the nonprofit sector. She is a founding member and prior Co-Chair for Impact 100 Greater Peninsula. She served on the Board and the Executive Committee for Peninsula Fine Arts Center. She recently chaired the Head of School Search for Hampton Roads Academy where she also serves as the Trustee Chair and is the rising Board Chair. Additional nonprofit work includes CASA, Fear 2 Freedom, American Red Cross, and The CAN Foundation.
Tasha lives in Newport News with her husband Sam Rose and children Alex, Harper and Cooper.

Madison Owens
Chief Development Officer
Madison Owens was born and raised in the Northern Neck area of Virginia. She attended Christopher Newport University, graduating from the Luter School of Business in 2019 with a B.S.B.A. with a concentration in marketing. She is currently pursuing a master of business administration degree from the College of William and Mary’s Raymond A. Mason School of Business.
Madison has been a part of the Boys & Girls Clubs movement since beginning her career at the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck. She transitioned to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula in January 2021, joining the team initially as the Director of Marketing & Special Events. Outside of her responsibilities as BGCVP’s Chief Development Officer, Madison is a member of Club Blue 757 and the Christopher Newport University Peninsula Alumni Chapter.
