Help Us Connect With Our Kids During This Difficult Time
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula (BGCVP) wants to provide the same quality service we have provided Peninsula youth for almost 75 years.
During these unprecedented times, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula (BGCVP) has had to reinvent how quality programming is delivered. Since the Clubs are currently closed, maintaining strong connections with our members is essential. All member’s families receive weekly wellness checks from our Unit Directors via phone calls to see if they are doing well and have any specific needs.
In addition, we are connecting and engaging with our kids by providing virtual programming on our Facebook, Instagram (IGTV), and YouTube pages. Each weekday focuses on one of five core programming areas – Education, Leadership & Service, Health & Wellness, the Arts, and Sports & Recreation. The videos are educational and entertaining, and all youth are encouraged to tune in and participate.
BGCVP is also providing Grab-and-Go meals, breakfast and dinner, each weekday between 3 – 4:30 pm at eight Club locations in Hampton and Newport News. We started serving about 350 kids each day, but the demand was high, and numbers have increased to almost 800 kids. Club membership is not necessary, and meals are available to all youth ages 18 and under. Club members are used to receiving dinners at the Clubs, so this gives them a sense of normalcy during this chaotic time.

Finally, a deep cleaning was performed at all Club locations to ensure that when we reopen, the Clubs are in good shape. Safety is always our number one priority, and we want to ensure that our youth have clean facilities. We invite anyone with kids ages 6-18 to consider us as a resource for all your out-of-school needs.
There will be a larger number of families experiencing financial hardships when we get through this difficult time and the number of young people we serve is likely to increase. Our mission “to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens”. Our kids need us now more than ever.
Please consider making a donation to enable us to continue providing these much-needed services.
