Young Readers Recommendation:
Meet your reviewer, Naseer!
Naseer is in the 3rd grade and is a member of the Pinedale Manor Club. He enjoys reading and learning. Naseer read this book during reading time in his English Class. His friends started talking about the Diary of a Wimpy Kids series, which is how he learned about the series.
Book: Diary of Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel
Author: Jeff Kinney
Summary: In the 7th book of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Greg Heffley explores his memories as a toddler and recalls his childhood memories with his older brother, Rodrick, as he’s now adjusting to being a middle child and having a younger brother. The book also focuses on his experience at a Valentine’s Day dance, which becomes a school fundraiser.
Rate: 10/10. It was a really great and interesting book.
Likes: The story overall and how detailed the book is. The author tells you exactly how Greg feels, what he thinks and everything that is happening in his life.
Would you recommend? Yes.
Independent Readers Recommendation:
Meet your reviewer, Saadiah!
Saadiah is in the 6th grade and is a member of the Pinedale Manor Club. She read this book during reading time for school and previously read other books from the Dork Diaries series!
Book: Dork Diaries 3: Tales from a Not-So-Talented Pop Star
Author: Rachel Renee Russell
Genre: Realistic Fiction; Comedy; Drama
Summary: Nikki Maxwell attends a private middle school, Westchester Country Day. She knows her reputation will be destroyed if anyone at school finds out her Dad works as the school’s exterminator. Nikki is willing to go to any lengths to protect the truth and her secret from being leaked to her peers. A major talent competition is announced with a school scholarship offered as the top prize. Nikki decides to create a band and enter the competition. She is determined to win the prize to pay her bill.
Rate: 7/10. "I was able to relate to Nikki, since she's outgoing and likes to sing."
Likes: The overall plot and how the author engages the reader throughout the entire book. “I also like Nikki’s sister, because she’s funny and doesn’t really care about what others think about her or her family."
Dislikes: MacKenzie, a character who is a popular student in the book, because she’s very rude and think she knows everything.
Would you recommend? Yes.“It’s a funny book and an easy read for someone in my age group.”
Young Adult and Teen Recommendation:
Meet your reviewer, Deon!
Deon is a member of the Lassiter Courts Club and is in the 11th grade. In his spare time, he enjoys hanging out with his friends. He read this book as a requirement for his English Class and he's happy that he did.
Book: The Crucible
Author: Author Miller
Genre: Tragedy; Drama
Summary: The setting of the book is in Salem, Massachusetts, and it is focused around the Salem Witch Trial.
Rate: 8/10. It was pretty interesting to see how the author portrayed the characters in the book. They didn’t use science to support their thinking. Instead, they created their own rules and followed what they believed in.
Likes: The main character, John Proctor, who stayed true to himself throughout the entire book. He was an honest man, which really stood out, especially with everything that was going on in the book. Deon described Proctor as, “Someone who’d rather die as a honest man, than die as a lying man.”
Dislikes: Some of the characters, because they would trick people into believing the lies that they told for their own selfish reasons.
Would you recommend? Yes, but only to someone who loves literature, since someone my age might find it boring and uninteresting due to the genre. It’s also important that they read the book first and then watch the movie next. The book includes more details, than what was shown in the movie.
